A businessman named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in Peru's Huanuco region. The 45-year-old candidate from the leftwing Ahora Nacion party secured 229 votes in the October 4 elections, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Gaspar Osorio. Flores, who works in freight transportation, will assume office on January 1. This is not the first time a candidate named Hitler has won an election in Peru, with previous instances including a parliamentary member and another district mayor.
