Govt Extends Upfront Payment Waiver For Partially Explored Coal Blocks

Business Standard · business

The coal ministry has extended the waiver of upfront payment for underground mining to partially explored coal blocks. This move aims to boost underground mining operations across the country. Previously, companies undertaking underground mining in such blocks paid an upfront amount calculated at 0.2 per cent of the estimated geological reserves. The government acknowledged that underground mining requires higher initial investment and production costs but offers significant environmental benefits. This incentive is provided on the condition that successful bidders exclusively use underground mining methods.
