Gomti River Recedes After Two Weeks, Leaving Flood-Hit Families Facing Long Recovery
Times of India · india
The Gomti river in Lucknow has finally begun receding after two weeks of flooding, offering some relief to thousands of residents. River levels dropped significantly, though still remaining above normal. However, floodwaters have entered homes, damaging belongings and leaving residents struggling for basic necessities like food. This year's flooding has been more severe than in 2008 due to increased habitation along the river's floodplains, which has reduced natural space for excess water. Relief operations, including food and water distribution by boats, are ongoing, with medical and sanitation teams deployed.
