TRAI has proposed a mandatory government authorisation framework for applications that stream live TV channels on smart devices. This includes platforms, operating systems, and broadcasters, who must ensure only authorised applications are available. TRAI suggests a light-touch framework with a one-time entry fee of Rs 1 lakh and an initial authorisation validity of 20 years. These recommendations aim to facilitate the orderly growth of internet-based linear television distribution services while incorporating consumer protection measures.

TRAI ने स्मार्ट डिवाइस पर लाइव टीवी चैनल स्ट्रीम करने वाले ऐप्लिकेशन्स के लिए एक ज़रूरी सरकारी मंज़ूरी का ढाँचा सुझाया है। इसमें प्लेटफॉर्म, ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम और ब्रॉडकास्टर्स शामिल हैं, जिन्हें यह पक्का करना होगा कि सिर्फ़ मंज़ूर ऐप्लिकेशन्स ही उपलब्ध हों। TRAI ने 1 लाख रुपये की एकमुश्त एंट्री फीस और 20 साल की शुरुआती मंज़ूरी की वैधता के साथ एक हल्के-फुल्के ढाँचे का सुझाव दिया है। इन सिफारिशों का मकसद उपभोक्ता संरक्षण उपायों को शामिल करते हुए इंटरनेट-आधारित लीनियर टेलीविज़न वितरण सेवाओं के व्यवस्थित विकास को आसान बनाना है।
