An international study warns that nearly 400 buildings, a helipad, and transport infrastructure in Badrinath face potential risk from a hanging glacier avalanche. Researchers identified one glacier as particularly hazardous due to its ice volume and steep slopes, though they clarified no imminent collapse is suggested. The study, published in 'Landslides', simulated high-mobility avalanches that could affect numerous structures and land areas. Scientists from IISc, DGRE, and the University of Cambridge conducted the research, highlighting the need for hazard assessments and early-warning systems.
