J&K Waqf Board Mosque Sermon Proposal Sparks Political Outcry

A proposal by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to select sermon speakers for all mosques under its purview has ignited a political and religious controversy. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti have strongly opposed the move, calling it an unacceptable interference in Muslim religious affairs by the BJP. Mufti accused the BJP of trying to impose uniformity on religious matters, similar to the Uniform Civil Code discussions. She emphasized that mosques are built on people's contributions and imams are best suited to decide sermon content.

जम्मू-कश्मीर वक्फ बोर्ड ने अपने अधीन सभी मस्जिदों के लिए प्रवचन वक्ताओं का चयन करने का प्रस्ताव दिया है, जिससे राजनीतिक और धार्मिक विवाद खड़ा हो गया है। मुख्यमंत्री उमर अब्दुल्ला और PDP अध्यक्ष महबूबा मुफ्ती ने इस कदम का कड़ा विरोध किया है और इसे BJP द्वारा मुस्लिम धार्मिक मामलों में अस्वीकार्य हस्तक्षेप बताया है। मुफ्ती ने BJP पर धार्मिक मामलों में एकरूपता थोपने की कोशिश करने का आरोप लगाया, जो समान नागरिक संहिता (Uniform Civil Code) की चर्चाओं जैसा है। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि मस्जिदें लोगों के योगदान से बनती हैं और इमाम प्रवचन की सामग्री तय करने के लिए सबसे उपयुक्त हैं।
