Indian Army's Unity Built on Constitution, Not Uniformity of Faith
Times of India · india
The Indian Army draws strength from its diverse soldiers, united by a commitment to the Constitution and country, not religious uniformity. While personal faith is respected, it must not influence loyalty, trust, or promotion decisions. Colonial policies once used religion and caste in recruitment, but independent India transformed the military's purpose to national defence under civilian authority. Maintaining this apolitical and secular principle is crucial for soldiers of divergent backgrounds to serve with dignity and confidence, especially amidst societal divisions.
