जुलाई 1999 कारगिल युद्ध में एक अहम मोड़ था। इसी दिन भारत ने अहम चोटियों पर फिर से कब्ज़ा कर लिया था। भारतीय सेना के फायर एंड फ्यूरी कोर के ज़ोरदार हमलों के बाद पाकिस्तान ने अपनी सेना वापस बुला ली थी। प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने इसी दिन ऑपरेशन विजय की सफलता का ऐलान किया था। इस जीत से भारत की क्षेत्रीय अखंडता मजबूत हुई और घुसपैठ के खिलाफ देश की सैन्य ताकत का प्रदर्शन हुआ।
