Mysuru School Construction Row Reignites Over Railways' Staff Quarters Project

A civic group in Mysuru has urged the City Corporation to halt railway construction near an 118-year-old government school, citing a lack of mandatory approvals. The Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) stated that construction of staff quarters and other buildings adjacent to the Vontikoppal school, established in 1908, resumed last week. Regional Commissioner Nitesh Patil had previously ordered a stop to the work in July 2026, noting state laws prohibit construction near schools over 12 years old.

मैसूर के एक नागरिक समूह ने सिटी कॉर्पोरेशन से रेलवे निर्माण को रोकने का आग्रह किया है। यह निर्माण 118 साल पुराने सरकारी स्कूल के पास हो रहा है और इसके लिए ज़रूरी मंज़ूरी नहीं ली गई है। मैसूर ग्राहक परिषद (MGP) ने कहा है कि 1908 में बने वोंटिकोप्पल स्कूल के बगल में स्टाफ क्वार्टर और अन्य इमारतों का निर्माण पिछले हफ़्ते फिर से शुरू हो गया है। रीजनल कमिश्नर नितेश पाटिल ने जुलाई 2026 में काम रोकने का आदेश दिया था, क्योंकि राज्य के कानून 12 साल से ज़्यादा पुराने स्कूलों के पास निर्माण की इजाज़त नहीं देते हैं।
