Business Standard · business
India's telecom regulator, Trai, has revised consumer grievance redressal rules, imposing penalties of up to ₹20 lakh per quarter per service area for telecom operators. These amendments aim to enhance efficiency and user-centricity in handling consumer complaints. Service providers must now submit quarterly performance reports, with penalties for non-compliance starting at ₹1,000 per improper complaint dismissal. The regulator also mandates 24/7 consumer complaint centres, with human representatives available for at least 16 hours daily. This move follows a significant rise in customer complaints registered in recent years.
