Man, Associates Booked For Assaulting Dalit Man

Alanganallur police in Madurai have registered a case against a man and his associates under the SC/ST Act for allegedly assaulting a 46-year-old Dalit labourer. The victim had questioned illegal fishing and water channel encroachments in Podumbu village, which allegedly fetched up to ₹15 lakh illicitly. The incident occurred after the victim alerted PWD officials about unauthorised leasing of fishing rights in local tanks. The Madras high court had directed police action following a petition from the victim. Further investigation is ongoing.

मदुरै के अलंगनल्लूर पुलिस ने पोडुम्बू गांव में एक 46 वर्षीय दलित मजदूर को कथित तौर पर पीटने के आरोप में एक व्यक्ति और उसके साथियों के खिलाफ SC/ST एक्ट के तहत मामला दर्ज किया है। पीड़ित ने अवैध मछली पकड़ने और पानी के चैनल पर अतिक्रमण पर सवाल उठाया था, जिससे कथित तौर पर ₹15 लाख तक की अवैध कमाई हुई थी। यह घटना तब हुई जब पीड़ित ने स्थानीय टैंकों में मछली पकड़ने के अधिकारों के अनधिकृत पट्टे के बारे में लोक निर्माण विभाग (PWD) के अधिकारियों को सतर्क किया था। मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय ने पीड़ित की याचिका के बाद पुलिस कार्रवाई का निर्देश दिया था। आगे की जांच जारी है।
