Karnataka Proposes 40 Times Higher Penalty on Illegal Fishing in State Waters

Karnataka is considering a significant increase in penalties for illegal fishing within its maritime boundaries. The current penalty of Rs 5,000 or five times the auction value is deemed insufficient to deter boats from other states. A proposal suggests a first-time offender penalty of Rs 2 lakh plus five times the catch's auction value, and Rs 4 lakh for a second offense. Minister Rizwan Arshad has directed officials to pursue this with relevant departments, aiming to curb illegal activities and protect local fishermen's interests.

कर्नाटक में अवैध मछली पकड़ने पर 40 गुना ज़्यादा जुर्माना लगाने का प्रस्ताव

कर्नाटक अपने समुद्री सीमा के भीतर अवैध मछली पकड़ने पर जुर्माने में भारी बढ़ोतरी पर विचार कर रहा है। वर्तमान में 5,000 रुपये या नीलामी मूल्य का पाँच गुना जुर्माना, दूसरे राज्यों की नौकाओं को रोकने के लिए अपर्याप्त माना जा रहा है। एक प्रस्ताव में पहली बार अपराध करने वालों के लिए 2 लाख रुपये और पकड़ी गई मछली के नीलामी मूल्य का पाँच गुना जुर्माना, और दूसरी बार अपराध करने पर 4 लाख रुपये का सुझाव दिया गया है। मंत्री रिजवान अर्शद ने अधिकारियों को संबंधित विभागों के साथ इस पर आगे बढ़ने का निर्देश दिया है, जिसका उद्देश्य अवैध गतिविधियों पर अंकुश लगाना और स्थानीय मछुआरों के हितों की रक्षा करना है।
