Arizona Homebuilder Creates Massive 4,000-Foot Backyard Railway

An Arizona homebuilder, Dennis Sirrine, spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars transforming his backyard into one of the largest private garden railways in the US. Beginning in January 2004, the Palo Verde & Southwestern Railroad project features nearly 4,000 feet of track and hundreds of model train cars. Sirrine utilized his construction expertise to build an elevated layout with winding tracks, artificial mountains, lakes, and rivers, raising sections up to six feet high for better viewing.
