Vijayawada Rythu Bazaars See No Rush For Subsidised Onions

The Hindu · india

Consumers in Vijayawada are not rushing to buy subsidised onions at Rythu Bazaars, despite the government capping prices at ₹35 per kg. The initiative, launched on September 30, aims to provide relief amid rising vegetable costs. However, the price difference of only ₹15 compared to outside markets, where onions sell for around ₹50 per kg, has led to low demand. Estate officers noted that approximately one tonne of onions has been sold daily over the past three days at Krishna Lanka and Patamata Rythu Bazaars.
