Many Eligible for India's Largest Health Scheme Unaware of Benefits

A significant portion of Indians eligible for the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the country's largest government health insurance initiative, remain unaware of its existence and benefits. A survey indicated that approximately 66% of eligible individuals had never heard of the PM-JAY scheme. Furthermore, only about 25% of those qualified have formally enrolled, despite enrollment being free. This lack of awareness, particularly in smaller towns and villages, means many families bear the full cost of medical emergencies, losing savings or future earnings on expenses that could have been covered by the scheme.
