New kharif onion arrivals have commenced at Lasalgaon APMC, India's largest wholesale onion market, though daily volumes are currently low at 30-40 quintals. The fresh kharif crop is fetching an average wholesale price of Rs 2,500 per quintal, significantly less than the Rs 4,100 per quintal for stored summer onions. This price difference is attributed to kharif onions' shorter storage life of only 25-30 days compared to summer onions' six-month capacity.
