Syrian Kurds are returning to their homes in Afrin after fleeing a 2018 Turkish-led offensive. Dilshad Hamdo described returning to his family home, finding it stripped bare but feeling immense relief. Tens of thousands of Kurds were displaced, with their homes occupied by other Syrians. Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, a transitional government facilitated the return of hundreds of Kurdish families. Hamdo's family negotiated with occupants, paying $300 for their home's return, emphasizing a desire for peace and unity.
