Bangladeshi Women Workers Face Abuse and Exploitation in Saudi Arabia
BBC Hindi · world
Following the execution of two Bangladeshi citizens, including a woman, in Saudi Arabia, concerns over the safety of Bangladeshi female migrant workers have resurfaced. Official data shows over 1.72 lakh Bangladeshi women migrated abroad for work between January and October this year, with approximately 1.20 lakh heading to Saudi Arabia. However, over 1,500 women have returned since September, with about 1,000 from Saudi Arabia, citing physical and mental abuse, non-payment of wages, and sexual harassment as primary reasons. A decade-old bilateral agreement reportedly lacked adequate focus on worker protection.
