A recent LocalCircles survey indicates that a significant majority of UPI users may abandon the platform if merchants pass on the new MDR charges. The survey, which gathered over 67,000 responses from UPI users across 291 districts, found that only 14% would continue using UPI and bear the extra cost. The remaining 76% stated they would switch to cash, cards, or other payment methods for transactions exceeding ₹2,000. This shift could potentially revive cash usage.
