A US jury has ordered Apple to pay over $5.7 billion to San Diego-based Taction for infringing on its patented haptic feedback technology. The verdict, reportedly the largest of its kind, found that Apple's Taptic Engine used in iPhones and Apple Watches infringed two Taction patents. Apple has stated its intention to appeal the ruling, asserting that its technology is fundamentally different and that it does not use Taction's patented methods. Taction had filed the lawsuit in 2021, alleging patent violations.
