The Bombay High Court has stated that while peaceful protest is a fundamental right, authorities must consider protester credentials and public inconvenience before imposing blanket restrictions. The court was hearing petitions alleging illegal detention of individuals during recent anti-CEC protests in Mumbai. It directed the Maharashtra government to respond to these allegations. The bench noted that individuals with criminal antecedents should not participate in protests under the guise of innocent civilians. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on November 19.

बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट ने कहा है कि शांतिपूर्ण विरोध एक मौलिक अधिकार है, लेकिन अधिकारियों को प्रतिबंध लगाने से पहले प्रदर्शनकारियों की पहचान और जनता को होने वाली असुविधा पर विचार करना चाहिए। कोर्ट मुंबई में हालिया एंटी-सीईसी विरोध प्रदर्शनों के दौरान लोगों की कथित अवैध हिरासत के खिलाफ याचिकाओं पर सुनवाई कर रहा था। इसने महाराष्ट्र सरकार को इन आरोपों पर प्रतिक्रिया देने का निर्देश दिया। बेंच ने कहा कि आपराधिक पृष्ठभूमि वाले व्यक्तियों को निर्दोष नागरिकों के भेष में विरोध प्रदर्शनों में भाग नहीं लेना चाहिए। मामले की अगली सुनवाई 19 नवंबर को होगी।
