World's Oldest Person's Cells Showed Biological Age 23 Years Younger
Times of India · science
Researchers studied María Branyas Morera, the world's oldest person, before her death at 117. While some biological markers indicated her advanced age, her epigenetics, metabolism, and gut microbiome appeared significantly younger. Epigenetic clocks estimated her biological age to be around 94, a difference of 23 years. The study, published in Cell Reports Medicine, examined her genome, epigenome, metabolism, proteins, and gut microbiome to understand her extreme longevity. Findings revealed efficient lipid metabolism and low inflammation in her blood, alongside youthful gut bacteria.
