A federal jury in Boston, Massachusetts, has convicted Eric Nshimiye, a Rwandan American citizen, of perjury and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors alleged Nshimiye lied about his involvement in the 1994 Rwandan genocide during testimony in a 2019 trial and in interviews with investigators. He had claimed neither he nor a friend participated in the killings and rape of Tutsis in Butare. Nshimiye became a US citizen in 2009 after immigrating. The conviction follows a trial where witnesses recalled Nshimiye's participation in violence.
