Israel's War on Homes: Thousands Displaced in West Bank and Gaza
Al Jazeera · world
Israeli forces have intensified home demolitions and expulsions across the West Bank and southern Lebanon, displacing nearly 5,000 Palestinians in just over a week. In Hebron, residents were forced to leave their homes with "the clothes on their backs" after soldiers were killed at a checkpoint. This operation follows years of demolitions, with thousands of buildings destroyed and Palestinians displaced since 2009. The UN agency UNRWA has called these measures collective punishment, violating international law. Many demolitions are linked to Israel's restrictive permit system, leaving structures vulnerable.
