Telangana Farmers Shift From Paddy To Vegetables And Spices Amid El Nino

The Hindu · india

Telangana farmers are continuing their shift away from traditional paddy cultivation towards vegetables, spices, and other horticulture crops, a trend observed since Kharif and persisting into the Yasangi season. This change is partly driven by the impact of El Nino and the potential for higher returns. Horticulture crop sowing has significantly increased, with Rangareddy, Sangareddy, and Siddipet districts showing the largest gains. Officials are supporting this transition with resources like drip irrigation and by facilitating access to drought-resistant seeds.
