Despite being a key player in India's gold medal-winning Asian Games squad, 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi was excluded from the playing XI for the first T20 against West Indies. Suryavanshi had opened for India in the Asian Games, scoring 38 against Sri Lanka and 15 in the final against Pakistan. Bowling coach Morne Morkel stated that while Suryavanshi's talent is recognized, sharing the dressing room with senior players will be beneficial for his development, even without game time. Naman Dhir has been included as an all-rounder in his place.
