India Faces Skill Mismatch: ITIs Need Overhaul for Modern Manufacturing Needs
Hindustan Times · education
India grapples with a significant skills gap, where millions pursue general degrees while industries struggle to find technically skilled workers. Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are central to this issue, often perceived as less prestigious than university education. This perception hinders vocational training, despite the high demand for practical skills in modern manufacturing. To address this, ITIs require more than just infrastructure upgrades; a societal and structural evolution is needed to align vocational training with industry demands and advanced technologies like EVs and automation.
