Indian government bonds experienced a decline in early trading on Wednesday due to a surge in oil prices and hawkish remarks from the Reserve Bank of India governor. The benchmark 6.94% 2036 bond yield reached its highest point since March 2023, following a recent rate hike by the central bank. Rising oil prices, influenced by geopolitical tensions, are pressuring India's inflation and currency. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra indicated that monetary policy and financial stability are interconnected, even as the central bank has implemented measures to support the rupee.
