Chennai Faces Flood Risk As Drains Remain Incomplete

Chennai is at high risk of flooding as monsoon approaches, with stormwater drains unfinished and roads in poor condition. Greater Chennai Corporation has not built silt catch pits, leaving drains open in many areas. Work on 48km of drains remains incomplete across densely populated neighbourhoods. Metro work has also impacted existing pipelines. Despite 1,000 dewatering motors, their use is limited without completed drain networks and desilting efforts.
