Finance Minister Cites World Bank Report on India's Poverty Reduction

Times of India - Business · business

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted a World Bank report stating India has achieved one of the fastest poverty declines globally. Between 2011 and 2023, nearly 50 crore people moved above the lower-middle-income poverty line, and extreme poverty dropped significantly. The report also noted substantial employment growth, increased female workforce participation, improved household welfare, and near-universal electricity access. Sitharaman credited these gains to government policies under Prime Minister Modi, attributing the NDA's continued public trust to this progress.
