Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as the captain of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats, concluding a nine-year leadership tenure. She led India to their first-ever ODI World Cup title in 2026, a significant achievement after years of near-misses in major tournaments. Kaur's captaincy also saw India secure a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and gold at the Asian Games. The 37-year-old stated that while stepping down as captain was difficult, she will continue playing international cricket. Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as her successor.
