Karnataka HC Questions Banks' Claim on Mallya's Shares After ₹14,131 Cr Recovery

The Karnataka High Court has questioned a consortium of banks for continuing to claim Vijay Mallya's United Breweries Ltd. shares, despite recovering assets worth ₹14,131.6 crore against a ₹6,203 crore loan to Kingfisher Airlines. The court noted that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had confirmed this recovery. A Division Bench allowed petitions, setting aside DRT and DRAT orders that allowed attachment of Mallya's UBL shares. The bench observed that Mallya's lifestyle and vanity might be hindering the final settlement of claims.

कर्नाटक हाई कोर्ट ने बैंकों के एक समूह से विजय माल्या की यूनाइटेड Breweries Ltd. की शेयर पर दावा जारी रखने को लेकर सवाल पूछा है, जबकि किंगफिशर एयरलाइंस को ₹6,203 करोड़ के लोन के एवज में ₹14,131.6 करोड़ की संपत्ति की वसूली हो चुकी है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने इस वसूली की पुष्टि की थी। एक डिवीजन बेंच ने DRT और DRAT के उन आदेशों को रद्द कर दिया, जिनमें माल्या के UBL शेयरों को अटैच करने की अनुमति दी गई थी। बेंच ने कहा कि माल्या की जीवनशैली और अहंकार दावों के अंतिम निपटान में बाधा डाल सकते हैं।
