YouTubers Warn Against Bluetooth Apps During Internet Shutdowns

During internet shutdowns, protesters may attempt to use Bluetooth-based messaging apps like BitChat, Bridgefy, or Briar. These decentralized, peer-to-peer apps create networks using Bluetooth Low Energy, allowing devices to communicate without internet access. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has urged people not to install such applications, as their use could undermine the purpose of an internet blockade. BitChat, co-founded by Twitter's Jack Dorsey, was reportedly used by protesters during a recent CJP protest. While these apps enable communication, their widespread use could render internet shutdowns ineffective.
