Singapore Welcomes Southeast Asia's First Okapi Calf

Singapore's Rainforest Wild Adventure has welcomed Southeast Asia's first okapi calf, a male born on July 27. The calf, weighing 20kg at birth and now 48kg, is being cared for by its mother, Kisala, in the Hidden Forest. Okapis, the closest living relatives to giraffes, are an endangered species native to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their populations have declined due to habitat loss and poaching. This birth is part of a coordinated breeding program for threatened species.

सिंगापुर के रेनफॉरेस्ट वाइल्ड एडवेंचर में दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया के पहले ओकापी बछड़े का जन्म हुआ है। 27 जुलाई को जन्मे इस नर बछड़े का वज़न जन्म के समय 20 किलो था, जो अब 48 किलो हो गया है। इसकी माँ, किसला, इसका ध्यान रख रही है। ओकापी, जिराफ के सबसे करीबी रिश्तेदार हैं और कांगो लोकतांत्रिक गणराज्य के मूल निवासी हैं। यह जन्म लुप्तप्राय प्रजातियों के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रजनन कार्यक्रम का हिस्सा है।
