Akali Dal Expels Leader For Supporting Rape Accused

The Shiromani Akali Dal has expelled its leader, Rup Kaur Sandhu, from primary membership. This action follows her support for a woman who accused senior party leader Amarjit Singh Chawla of rape. Sandhu had provided a platform for the alleged victim through her social media. The party cited indiscipline and alleged misconduct as reasons for her expulsion, without directly acknowledging her support for the accuser. Sandhu claims other women have also come forward with similar accusations against individuals associated with religious institutions.

शिरोमणि अकाली दल ने अपनी नेता, रूप कौर संधू को प्राथमिक सदस्यता से निकाल दिया है। यह कार्रवाई उस महिला के समर्थन के बाद हुई है जिसने पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता अमरजीत सिंह चावला पर रेप का आरोप लगाया था। संधू ने सोशल मीडिया के ज़रिए कथित पीड़िता को मंच प्रदान किया था। पार्टी ने अनुशासनहीनता और कथित कदाचार को निष्कासन का कारण बताया, लेकिन सीधे तौर पर आरोप लगाने वाली महिला के समर्थन को स्वीकार नहीं किया। संधू का दावा है कि धार्मिक संस्थानों से जुड़े लोगों के खिलाफ इसी तरह के आरोप कई अन्य महिलाओं ने भी लगाए हैं।
