Space Debris Threatens Missions and Earth Life, Director Warns

Times of India · science

Director OP Srivastava of the documentary ‘The Dirty Sky’ has highlighted the growing threat of space debris, comprising dead satellites and rocket parts, travelling at extreme speeds. He warned that over one million objects are currently floating in space, moving at 1,80,000 mph, posing significant risks to future space missions and life on Earth. The rapid expansion of satellite constellations, like those launched by SpaceX, exacerbates the problem, with no comprehensive global agreement in place. Collisions could create thousands of fragments, jeopardizing operational satellites and critical services dependent on them.
