Supreme Court Strikes Down Karnataka Recruitment Law Amid Corruption Allegations
Hindustan Times · politics
The Supreme Court has invalidated a 2022 Karnataka law that sought to validate the recruitment of 362 gazetted probationers, citing rampant corruption and nepotism. A bench of justices JB Pardiwala and K Vinod Chandran observed that successive governments' shifting political stances left thousands of jobseekers in limbo. The court stated that the legislature cannot nullify judicial decisions through legislation, especially when the selection process was already cancelled in 2014 due to irregularities exposed by a CID investigation. The ruling criticizes the attempt to revive appointments tainted by manipulation.
