ED is investigating Cyprus-headquartered online betting platform Parimatch for allegedly operating illegally and siphoning approximately ₹3,000 crore from Indian users in 2023-2024. The ED has frozen assets worth ₹150 crore so far in a money-laundering probe spanning multiple states. Parimatch reportedly used a complex network of around 500 mule bank accounts to disguise and transfer funds generated through illegal betting operations. The platform allegedly lured Indian users with promises of high returns before defrauding them, investing heavily in marketing and celebrity endorsements.
