ECI Orders Probe Into Form-7 Fraud Allegations After Karnataka CM's Protest

The Hindu · india

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered an investigation into the bulk filing of Form-7 applications, which seek to remove voters from electoral rolls. This action follows a protest by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and his cabinet colleagues against alleged targeting of Muslim, SC, ST, and OBC voters. Shivakumar claimed that many Form-7s were false or forged, with some BJP workers withdrawing their applications after warnings. The Chief Electoral Officer directed Electoral Registration Officers to take action against those knowingly making false statements, initiating inquiries before punitive measures.
