Scientists Recreate 5,000-Year-Old Egyptian Blue Pigment

Times of India · science

Researchers have recreated Egyptian blue, one of the world's oldest synthetic pigments, using 12 different recipes and varying raw materials and heating times. The study aimed to understand why the ancient pigment can appear vivid blue, grey-green, or yellow-green. Findings indicate that the final color depends on the amount of blue-producing mineral, other present materials, particle size, and the surface beneath the pigment. This ancient pigment provided artisans with a synthetic alternative to costly natural blue minerals.
