The FBI has identified North Korea as responsible for a record-breaking cryptocurrency theft totaling $6.3 billion from the Binance exchange. Malicious actors reportedly laundered the stolen assets, primarily converting them into Ethereum. The FBI implicated a group known as TraderTraitor, previously linked to a $1.5 billion theft. Binance has pledged to cover the stolen funds using its reserves and corporate treasury, aiming to restore 100% of user assets. The exchange also faced temporary withdrawal halts following the breach.
