California Woman Accused of Spying for China on Taiwan President's Son

U.S. authorities have arrested Wanying Zhang, also known as Heather, in Los Angeles on charges of acting as an unregistered foreign agent for China. The FBI stated that Zhang surveilled a son of Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te and his family at the direction of Chinese officials. She allegedly traveled to Seattle in 2025 and sent photos, video, and license plate information to Chinese officials. Zhang was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport before her planned departure to China.
