Punjab CM Meets Panel on Anti-Sacrilege Law

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met a state-appointed panel on Sunday to address objections from Akal Takht regarding the new anti-sacrilege legislation. Mann emphasized protecting the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through the strongest legal framework. He stressed that the law's core provisions, including life imprisonment and heavy fines for perpetrators, must not be compromised. Akal Takht has raised concerns about specific terminology and definitions within the amended law, arguing that state unilateralism is inappropriate for Panthic matters.

पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान ने रविवार को एक राज्य-नियुक्त पैनल से मुलाकात की ताकि अकाली दल द्वारा नए धर्मग्रंथ के अपमान विरोधी कानून पर उठाई गई आपत्तियों को दूर किया जा सके। मान ने कहा कि श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब जी की पवित्रता को सबसे मजबूत कानूनी ढांचे से सुरक्षित रखना ज़रूरी है। उन्होंने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि कानून के मुख्य प्रावधानों, जिसमें दोषियों के लिए आजीवन कारावास और भारी जुर्माना शामिल है, से कोई समझौता नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। अकाली दल ने संशोधित कानून में इस्तेमाल की गई खास शब्दावली और परिभाषाओं पर चिंता जताई है, उनका कहना है कि पंथिक मामलों में राज्य का एकतरफा रवैया उचित नहीं है।
