FSSAI Accuses PepsiCo of Duping Consumers With 'Energy Drink' Label
Business Standard · business
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has accused PepsiCo of deliberately marketing high-caffeine beverages like Adrenaline Rush and Sting Energy as 'energy drinks' to mislead consumers. The regulator argued in an affidavit before the Delhi High Court that India lacks prescribed standards for products sold under this category, potentially leading to misbranding. FSSAI cited claims like 'vitalises body and mind' as misleading and directed manufacturers to withdraw such labels within 90 days. PepsiCo is challenging this direction, seeking to exhaust existing packaging material.
