Malaria Cases Surge in Mumbai; Doctors Warn of Severe Infections
Hindustan Times · health
Doctors in Mumbai are reporting a significant increase in malaria cases this year, with infections becoming more severe. Even vivax malaria cases are turning critical, affecting kidneys and livers. The rise is partly attributed to extensive construction work across the city. Delays in diagnosis and self-medication, sometimes using AI, are exacerbating the problem. Mumbai recorded 7,422 malaria cases between June and August, a 44% rise from last year, though actual numbers may be higher due to under-reporting by private practitioners.
