The Supreme Court questioned the religious connection of firecrackers during a hearing on air pollution. Justice Joymallya Bagchi asked, "What is religious about bursting firecrackers?" The court acknowledged not wanting to hurt religious sentiments but stressed the need for public cooperation for public health.
