US Proposes Fees on Spanish Ships, Olive Oil Import Caps Over Port Dispute

Hindustan Times · world

The US Federal Maritime Commission has proposed a $200,000 fee on Spanish-flagged ships and import restrictions on Spanish goods, including olive oil, cosmetics, and ceramics. These measures are a response to Spain denying access to three US vessels in 2024, which Spanish officials stated were carrying cargo related to the Gaza conflict. The proposed actions, which are subject to a 60-day public comment period, stem from an investigation into Spain's alleged creation of unfavorable shipping conditions for US vessels.
