The Supreme Court has reaffirmed its ban on the unauthorised commercial use and circulation of livestreamed judicial proceedings. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated that proceedings meant for public good cannot be exploited for personal financial gain. The court clarified this is not a gag on viewing or reporting but a measure against monetisation. Justices noted that while countries like the UK and US livestream, strict guidelines prevent commercialisation. The court is seeking suggestions for new guidelines.
