Chemists, Wholesalers May Need Govt Nod To Advertise Prescription Drugs

Times of India · health

Chemists, wholesalers, and drug distributors may soon require central government approval before advertising certain prescription medicines. The health ministry is proposing to extend existing curbs on advertisements of Schedule H, H1, and X drugs to those involved in their sale and distribution. This move comes amid concerns raised by regulators regarding the promotion of potent prescription medicines, including antibiotics, hormonal preparations, and psychotropic drugs. The proposal aims to insert a new sub-rule under the Drugs Rules, 1945, mandating prior central government sanction for such advertisements.
