New research suggests lunar settlements could run out of water faster than anticipated. Even with a generous estimate of one billion tonnes of water, a city of one million people could deplete it in about a century with 98% recycling. Without recycling, this supply would last only two years. This reality check comes as NASA and China advance their lunar programs, with entrepreneurs envisioning large-scale industries and cities on the moon.
